Meet the Scientist

Do you want to INSPIRE young people about their future careers?

We need to make sure young people know how they can become part of this journey through their careers and how to seize opportunities to get started. Our Meet the Scientist sessions aim at doing exactly that – opening up horizons to the next generation of creative explorers. They are a window into the world of how science and research can be applied in a variety of ways across a multitude of professions, showcasing where an inquiring mind can lead.

By hearing from those who have been ‘hands-on’ with science at any stage of their career, through investigations, experiments, research and teaching – you can help inspire the next generation of big thinkers.

Meet the Scientist has you leading two short informal discussions based on your work with small groups of students, likely aged 11 to 14. Each 15-minute session gives them a window into your world, as you field questions from students and start a conversation that might just spark something in a student to want to follow in your footsteps.

We regularly run Meet the Scientist training sessions at LifeLab through out the academic year. You can sign up for as many as you are able to commit to. LifeLab staff and teachers will give you hints and tips on running sessions for young people. There is also an opportunity to meet some of the Scientists that are already part of the program.

There may be other opportunities for you to contribute to LifeLab’s diverse developing talent opportunities, or be featured in our virtual Meet the Scientist directory too.

In return, you will receive training to help you engage people with your work, lead discussion and communicate your passion. Being involved with Meet the Scientist training lets you to register as a national STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) Ambassador and record your sessions as your STEM Ambassador activity.
