Experience Medicine Summer School

Course details

Thursday 23 July and Friday 24 July 2026

Running since 2013, LifeLab has been inviting students in years 9, 10 and 11 who are interested in finding out more about becoming a doctor to attend our Experience Medicine Summer School.

While with us, students will spend two days gaining experience of what it is like to train and work as a doctor. They will have the chance to:

  • learn how to perform clinical skills and practice these on a model.
  • experience anatomy and pathology teaching.
  • see and speak with health professionals.
  • talk to medical students about training as a doctor and find out how the application process works.
  • listen to our keynote speaker talking about life in medicine.
  • visit departments within the hospital.
Reserving a place

This two-day programme costs £180. All food and drink are included, but participants need to make their own transport arrangements. Accommodation is not included.

Places are allocated on a first come, first served basis.

Bursary spaces

We have free bursary spaces available for students meeting one of these criteria:

  • first generation to Higher Education and attended a lower-performing school. Check eligible schools.
  • receiving free school meals at any point during secondary school education.
  • being a Young or Young Adult Carer.
  • living or grew up in Local Authority care.
  • living in an area with a postcode within the lowest 20 per cent of Index of Multiple Deprivation or IMD Quintile 1. Check eligibility.

For bursary spaces, we shortlist applications together rather than on a first come, first served basis. We shortlist in April and again in May.
