This is the digital version of our Experience Medicine programme, which is delivered in person at LifeLab during the autumn and summer terms. It gives you the opportunity to take part online and explore the same topics and experiences. Learn more about the in-person experience.

Have you ever thought about becoming a doctor? Experience Medicine Online is a live 6-week online course for students in years 10 to 13 interested in studying medicine. Delivered weekly, you will experience sessions covering medical ethics, clinical skills, admissions, communication and meet clinical staff.

Participants will have the chance to:

• understand medical ethics and the impact decisions have.
• practice debating different medical scenarios.
• work through different anatomy case studies.
• ask questions to the medicine admissions team.
• meet the healthcare professionals.
• practice communication skills.

As well as live sessions, activities are available online to support your learning.

All participants will receive a booklet and certificate of attendance.

Our sessions are delivered live weekly on Microsoft Teams. They are hosted by members of the LifeLab team, clinical staff and medical students. The dates are:

• Session 1: Wednesday 4 November 17:30 – 19:00
• Session 2: Wednesday 11 November 17:30 – 18:30
• Session 3: Wednesday 18 November 17:30 – 18:30
• Session 4: Wednesday 25 November 17:30 – 18:30
• Session 5: Wednesday 2 December 17:30 – 18:30
• Session 6: Wednesday 9 December 17:30 – 18:30

Our sessions are delivered live weekly on Microsoft Teams. They are hosted by members of the LifeLab team, clinical staff and medical students. This course is for years 10 and 12 only. The dates are:

• Session 1: Wednesday 9 June 17:30 – 19:00
• Session 2: Wednesday 16 June 17:30 – 18:30
• Session 3: Wednesday 23 June 17:30 – 18:30
• Session 4: Wednesday 30 June 17:30 – 18:30
• Session 5: Wednesday 7 July 17:30 – 18:30
• Session 6: Wednesday 14 July 17:30 – 18:30

Places are £150 and are available on a first come, first served basis. After completing the booking process and making payment, you will receive an information pack by email.

Applications are open for the summer 2027 course.

Will I get a certificate for this event?
Yes, all participants will get a certificate of attendance.

Are the sessions recorded?
No, we do not record the live sessions, but we have pre-recorded resources as part of home learning.

I have paid for a place but can no longer attend, are refunds available?
Yes, refunds are available up to 2 weeks before the event is due to start, please email lifelab@soton.ac.uk for more information.

The course is full, how do I access the waiting list?
Please email lifelab@soton.ac.uk to be added to the waiting list. Alternatively, we are running other sessions throughout the year.

Will you run this course in-person?
Our very popular Experience Medicine LifeLab Summer School takes place for two days every July.

Which platform do you use to host the online sessions?
We host our sessions on Microsoft Teams.

I don’t have a camera, can I still attend?
Yes, but having a camera makes the experience more unique and helps communicate with others. We prefer students to have their cameras on where possible.
