Young people worked with us to bring NxtGen’s course design session detail to life. The development team was made up of 12 young people aged 14 to 18, from diverse backgrounds and attending a range of schools and colleges, supported by University of Southampton staff with research and academic skills expertise.

Young people in this project were encouraged to develop their own research questions about what a Youth Voice Service could look like and how their voices should be included in a Youth Voice service. For their research questions to relate to Southampton City Council’s priorities, service leaders in the community were invited to some of the sessions to talk about Southampton City Council’s priority themes.

This paid opportunity trained young people in year 12 (or equivalent if not at school or college) to identify and research health and social care issues that matter to them, and how to deal with them. The successful candidates formed a youth jury which put questions to those who make decisions about how young people’s health and social care services are run in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.
